Requirements
Salt Lake Spay & Neuter is seeking an advanced-level Surgical Veterinary Technician who can confidently operate in a fast-paced, high-volume surgical environment with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate has strong anesthesia and surgical experience, is comfortable handling emergency situations (including code blues), and can maintain efficiency and accuracy under pressure. This role requires someone who can independently manage patient prep, induction, monitoring, and recovery support, while also helping maintain a steady surgical flow of 70–80 patients per day. We are looking for a technician who can efficiently prep a patient start-to-finish within 4–5 minutes (including shaving, sterilizing, nail trims, vaccines, and bloodwork) without compromising patient safety or quality of care. Strong technical skills such as IV catheter placement, intubation, medication calculations, and anesthesia monitoring are essential. Beyond technical ability, this person should demonstrate leadership and initiative—able to direct team members during procedures and emergencies, train and mentor less experienced staff, and contribute to a cohesive, efficient surgical team. The right candidate is adaptable, able to quickly learn and retain protocols, and capable of adjusting to changes in workflow and patient needs throughout the day. We value individuals who align with our core principles of being competent, compassionate, and economical, and who take pride in working at a high level within a mission-driven clinic focused on making a meaningful impact in the community.
