5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT, 84741 bestfriends.orgOverview
Back in 1984, a scrappy group of friends from far corners of the globe settled in a remote area of Utah’s high desert … and took the first steps to forever changing the future for pets in shelters. It’s the story of Best Friends, but it’s much more than the history of a spot on the map. This group of ordinary but passionate people believed that every pet has a story, too — each one worth saving, each life individual and important. Today, four decades after they broke ground for a sanctuary in a remote region of the Southwest, achieving no-kill across the entire country is within reach.
Tucked into the majestic canyons of southern Utah, Best Friends’ Kanab animal sanctuary is truly a place like no other. Located 5 miles north of Kanab, Utah, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is the largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals in the country. It is a home-between-homes for up to 1,600 animals on any given day. Both visitors and volunteers alike find visiting Best Friends’ sanctuary to be an inspiring and moving experience.
Requirements
Lifesaving and Care Specialists play a direct role in achieving Best Friends Animal Society's no-kill mission and goal by providing the hands-on care for the animals at the sanctuary, working with all departments to find those animals homes wherever possible, and serving as mission and brand ambassadors for the tens of thousands of guests, volunteers, and adopters who visit the sanctuary annually. Cat World Lifesaving & Care Specialists work within a team setting to oversee the health, wellbeing, and general care of cats. They have a unique role as the direct day-to-day connector between the animals in our care and our supporters. As such these specialists represent Best Friends through in-person work, conversations, demonstrations, tour presentations, and other activities.
