We also partner with our local community, including a Licensed Dog Trainer, who works with our patients on behavior management. Requirements
Acorn Hill Animal Hospital is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and team-oriented Part-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary care team. This is a great opportunity for someone with previous veterinary, animal care, kennel, shelter, or related experience who enjoys working with animals and wants to grow their skills in a busy veterinary hospital environment. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting our veterinarians and veterinary technicians while providing compassionate, hands-on care to our canine and feline patients. The ideal candidate is comfortable handling animals, works well in a fast-paced environment, communicates effectively, and takes pride in providing excellent patient and client care. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include: Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with examinations, treatments, procedures, and patient care Safely restrain and handle dogs, cats, and other veterinary patients Prepare examination rooms, treatment areas, equipment, and supplies Assist with patient intake, discharge, and routine patient care Monitor hospitalized and recovering patients and promptly report changes or concerns to the veterinary team Provide compassionate care, comfort, and attention to hospitalized patients Assist with collecting, preparing, and handling laboratory samples as directed Clean and sanitize kennels, examination rooms, treatment areas, equipment, and other hospital spaces Maintain clean, organized, and safe patient-care areas Stock supplies and assist with inventory management Maintain accurate patient records and follow hospital protocols and safety procedures Communicate professionally and courteously with clients, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other team members Support the overall workflow and daily operations of the veterinary hospital Perform additional duties as assigned Skills Knowledge and Expertise Required: Previous experience in veterinary medicine, animal care, kennel, shelter, boarding, or a related animal-care environment Comfortable safely handling and working around dogs, cats, and other animals Strong communication and interpersonal skills Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative veterinary team Willingness to learn and follow veterinary safety, handling, and patient-care procedures Ability to work in a busy, physically active veterinary hospital environment Preferred: Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician Assistant Experience with animal restraint and handling Experience with veterinary patient care or assisting with veterinary procedures Familiarity with veterinary terminology and electronic medical records Previous experience working in a veterinary hospital or animal clinic Physical Requirements This position is physically active and requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, reach, lift and carry animals and supplies, and safely handle patients of varying sizes. The Veterinary Assistant may be exposed to animal waste, bodily fluids, cleaning products, scratches, bites, and other conditions commonly associated with veterinary medicine.
