Veterinarian Medical Director | San Antonio, TX | $160K–$175K + Production MD Stipend | No Negative Accrual | Leadership Mentorship | Growing Small Animal GP The Opportunity A growing small animal general practice in San Antonio, TX is seeking a full-time Veterinarian Medical Director to lead its clinical team and help shape the next stage of the hospital's growth. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity that combines clinical practice with mentorship, team development, medical quality, and hospital strategy. You'll partner closely with the Practice Manager and broader leadership team while continuing to practice medicine and maintain relationships with clients and patients. The Leadership Opportunity The Medical Director will serve as the clinical and cultural leader of the hospital, helping establish the environment in which veterinarians and support staff can do their best work. You'll have the opportunity to: • Mentor and support veterinarians at varying experience levels • Establish and maintain high standards of medical care • Help build and strengthen hospital culture • Partner with the Practice Manager on hospital priorities • Support clinical and operational growth • Identify opportunities for improvement • Support veterinarian development and retention • Lead through active clinical practice • Help shape the future direction of the hospital This is particularly compelling for a veterinarian who wants more influence over how medicine is practiced and how a veterinary team develops. The Medicine The hospital provides comprehensive small animal general practice medicine with an emphasis on: • Preventive and wellness care • Sick-patient medicine • Vaccinations • Diagnostics • Soft-tissue surgery • Client education • Long-term patient relationships You'll continue practicing clinically while balancing your responsibilities as the hospital's medical leader. The Team & Culture You'll be joining a hospital with a collaborative, low-turnover environment and an established support team. The practice has a loyal and growing client base and is looking for a leader who can build upon the existing culture while helping the hospital continue to grow. The ideal Medical Director will value: • Collaboration • Mentorship • Communication • Medical quality • Team development • Adaptability • Positive workplace culture • Sustainable hospital growth Leadership Experience You don't necessarily need years of Medical Director experience to be a strong candidate for this opportunity. An experienced veterinarian who already enjoys mentoring colleagues, providing clinical guidance, improving workflows, or contributing to hospital decisions could be well positioned to take the next step into formal leadership. Structured leadership training and mentorship are available to help veterinarians develop skills in: • Veterinary leadership • Hospital operations • Medical excellence • Coaching and mentorship • Team development • Clinical decision-making Medical leaders also have access to ongoing mentorship and individualized support as they develop in the role. Compensation & Leadership Incentives • $160,000–$175,000 base salary • Quarterly production compensation • Medical Director stipend • No negative accrual • Comprehensive health benefits • 401(k) with employer match • Continuing education resources • Leadership training and mentorship • Student loan support resources The compensation structure rewards both components of the position—the veterinarian's clinical production and their additional leadership responsibilities. Schedule • Full-time position • Primarily daytime hospital schedule • Weekday and Saturday hospital operations Specific scheduling and Saturday expectations can be discussed during the interview process. Who We're Looking For • DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree • Texas veterinary license or ability to obtain one prior to starting • Active DEA license or eligibility • Strong small animal GP clinical skills • Interest in veterinary leadership and mentorship • Ability to support veterinarians at different experience levels • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Collaborative leadership approach • Commitment to high-quality medicine • Interest in hospital growth and team development Who This Could Be Especially Good For Maybe you're already the veterinarian your colleagues turn to when they need another perspective on a case. You enjoy mentoring newer doctors, helping your team solve problems, improving how things are done, and having a voice in the direction of your hospital—but you haven't officially held a Medical Director title yet. This opportunity provides a path to take that next step while receiving structured leadership training, mentorship, and operational support. It's equally attractive for an experienced Medical Director who wants the opportunity to lead a growing hospital and have meaningful influence over its future. Benefits & Professional Support Eligible full-time team members have access to: • Comprehensive health benefits • Health and life insurance • Short- and long-term disability • 401(k) with employer match • Continuing education • Leadership development • Mental health and wellness resources • Paid parental leave • Childcare and elder-care resources • Family-planning support • Veterinary-service and pet-care discounts • Student loan management resources Why Consider This Opportunity This is more than an Associate Veterinarian position with an additional title. You'll have the opportunity to influence medical standards, mentor veterinarians, strengthen hospital culture, partner on operational decisions, and help shape the future of a growing practice—all while continuing to practice medicine. For someone moving into leadership for the first time, you'll also have structured training, mentorship, and ongoing support rather than being expected to figure out the Medical Director role alone.
