Job Description

A privately-owned, full-service small animal hospital in Houston, TX is seeking an Emergency/Urgent Care Veterinarian to join it’s 8-DVM team. This is a rare opportunity to focus exclusively on emergency and urgent care medicine within a well-established, AAHA-accredited hospital, with the flexibility to split time between ER/UC and general practice if that mix appeals to you. Whether you want a purely emergency-focused caseload or a blended schedule, the hospital is happy to build a role around what suits you best. Operating around the clock, the hospital sees a genuine mix of urgent presentations, trauma, and general emergencies alongside its established GP caseload, giving ER/UC doctors a steady and varied flow of cases. You will be supported by a large, cross-trained technician team on site 24/7, so you are never working ER shifts without experienced hands alongside you. The 21,000 square foot facility is built to support this kind of medicine, with an ICU, on-site pharmacy, in-house laboratory, digital radiology, ultrasound, endoscopy, and fully equipped surgical suites all under one roof, meaning most cases can be managed without the need to transfer. Shifts are currently structured around Sunday 12pm to 12am and Monday/Tuesday 4pm to 12am, with some flexibility available depending on your availability and preferences. You will be joining a team of eight veterinarians, working alongside doctors who bring a genuine range of clinical interests and experience! The hospital is built around high-quality, relationship-driven medicine, with a genuine focus on staff wellbeing that shows up in the everyday details, from regular staff lunches and monthly cookouts to a culture where doctors are genuinely supported rather than run into the ground. Key Highlights • Dedicated Emergency/Urgent Care role, or a blended GP and ER/UC schedule, whichever suits you best • Privately owned, AAHA accredited, full-service hospital operating 24/7 • 21,000 square foot facility with ICU, on-site pharmacy, in-house lab, digital radiology, ultrasound, endoscopy, and surgical suites • Large, cross-trained technician team staffing ICU and support 24/7 • Steady flow of urgent and emergency cases alongside general practice overflow • Shifts built around Sunday 12pm to 12am and Monday/Tuesday 4pm to 12am, with flexibility available • Team of 8 veterinarians with a genuine range of clinical interests • Fantastic culture centered around mutual respect, staff well-being, continued learning and development, and trust • Regular team lunches, cook-outs and events • Advanced equipment on-site, reducing the need for case transfers About You • DVM or equivalent degree that allows you to practice veterinary medicine in the US • Hold or be eligible for a Veterinary State License in Texas • Comfortable managing emergency and urgent care cases • Confident triaging and prioritizing a varied caseload • Strong communicator who works well within a collaborative, fast-paced team • Open to a fully ER/UC focused schedule or a blended GP/ER split • Open to a DVM who is looking to transition into ER medicine whilst maintaining a GP caseload Benefits • Guaranteed base salary (negotiable on experience), plus 22% production • No negative accrual • Relocation assistance available • Health insurance plans with employer contribution • Retirement available after one year of employment • CE allowance of $2,500 per year, plus CE days to attend • Paid professional dues and license fees • Three weeks PTO • Scrubs • Fantastic earning potential • A team culture built on genuine care, for clients, pets, and colleagues alike • And more!
