Charleston Veterinary Referral Center is the most advanced and comprehensive small animal referral and emergency hospital in Charleston and the Southeast. We see appointments by referral from your primary veterinarian and are open and staffed for emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Specialties include emergency medicine, critical care, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, surgery, and physical rehabilitation. Patients come to us from South Carolina and surrounding states.
CVRC is a 24-hour specialty and emergency referral hospital conveniently located in the suburb of West Ashley, about 20 minutes south of downtown Charleston, SC. The Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS) has awarded us its highest certification for emergency and critical care, Level I, making Charleston Veterinary Referral Center one of a select few veterinary hospitals in the nation and the only hospital in South Carolina to attain this recognition.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced veterinary assistant who enjoys emergency medicine, hands-on patient care, and working as part of a collaborative veterinary team. Health insurance Employer-paid pet insurance Generous paid time off Paid sick time Work-life balance 401(k) with employer matching Tuition reimbursement assistance for team members pursuing veterinary technician school and LVT certification Financial support for team members pursuing VTS certification Out-of-state license transfer costs covered by CVRC Relocation assistance available when applicable Continuing education benefits Additional benefits and employee programs Schedule Full-time Three 12-hour shifts per week Day Shift: 8:00am–8:00pm Swing Shift: 2:00pm–2:00am Overnight Shift: 8:00pm–8:00am Responsibilities Provide hands-on patient care and support Veterinary Technicians and doctors in the Emergency department Safely restrain and handle patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures Assist with patient intake, monitoring, treatments, and daily care Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for procedures Assist with emergency and critical care patients as directed by the medical team Maintain clean, organized patient care and treatment areas Communicate effectively with Veterinary Technicians, doctors, clients, and other team members Follow hospital protocols and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment Qualifications At least 1 year of experience working in veterinary medicine preferred General practice, emergency, or specialty veterinary experience preferred Understanding of basic veterinary medicine and patient care Veterinary restraint experience Strong attention to detail Comfortable working in a fast-paced emergency environment Strong communication and teamwork skills Able to remain calm and respond appropriately during urgent and life-threatening situations Motivated to continue developing veterinary technical skills Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
