Job Description

Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care – Huntington, NY Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our growing Internal Medicine and Surgery Departments. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside board-certified specialists in a collaborative, fast-paced environment while expanding your skills in specialty veterinary medicine. You'll play an integral role in supporting advanced diagnostics, surgical procedures, and exceptional patient care from admission through recovery. As an Internal Medicine & Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you'll help ensure patients receive the highest standard of compassionate care while supporting both our medical and surgical teams. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include: Assist Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) and veterinarians with patient care, treatments, and procedures.  Prepare and position patients for anesthetic and surgical procedures.   Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats for examinations, treatments, diagnostics, and recovery.   Utilize proper restraint techniques to ensure patient safety and comfort.   Support diagnostic procedures, including radiographs (X-rays) and advanced imaging (experience preferred).   Prepare surgical suites, equipment, and instruments for procedures.   Assist with patient preparation, recovery, and monitoring before and after procedures.   Obtain and document patient histories from clients and referring veterinary hospitals.   Communicate with clients regarding appointments, medications, prescriptions, and follow-up care.   Call in and manage prescriptions with pharmacies as directed.   Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment and surgical environment.   Collaborate closely with veterinarians, specialists, LVTs, and the broader hospital team to deliver exceptional patient care. Skills Knowledge and Expertise Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant in general practice, emergency, or specialty medicine required.  Interest in Internal Medicine, Surgery, and specialty veterinary care.   Strong patient handling and restraint skills with dogs and cats.   Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented clinical environment.   Excellent communication and client service skills.   Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.   Experience with radiology (X-rays) is preferred but not required.   Experience supporting surgical procedures or anesthesia is a plus.
