Job Description

We are working on behalf of a modern, full-service veterinary hospital and urgent care centre in Henrietta, NY, that is looking to welcome a Medical Director to lead its urgent care service. This is a well-established, community-focused practice that offers both general practice and urgent care to a diverse patient base, including dogs, cats, and exotic species. The hospital has built an outstanding reputation locally, and is proud to be the only urgent care provider in the Rochester area that specialises in exotic pets. The team works closely with local shelters, rescues, and pet stores, and has become an integral part of the surrounding community since its founding. A strong online presence and loyal client base reflect the quality of care delivered every day. As Medical Director, you will shape the medical direction of the hospital while continuing to practise hands-on medicine, surgery, and dentistry. The practice operates on an appointment-based model, and doctors are not expected to stay beyond their scheduled shifts — genuine work–life balance is a priority here. You’ll be supported by a strong team, including licensed technicians, veterinary assistants, and client service representatives, with a 2:1 staff-to-doctor ratio that ensures you have the resources to deliver excellent care. This is also an opportunity to explore a genuine partnership pathway. The hospital is part of a collaborative group where veterinarians can co-own practices, giving you a stake in the business you help to build. If you’re an experienced DVM ready to step into a leadership role in a close-knit, team-oriented environment that values compassion, integrity, and professional growth — this is a role worth exploring. Key Highlights: • Full-time Medical Director role leading an urgent care service in a modern hospital • Earning potential above $200,000 + up to $50,000 sign-on bonus • Appointment-based model with no expectation to stay late • 2:1 staff-to-doctor ratio including 13 licensed technicians, 4 veterinary assistants, and 7 CSRs • Diverse caseload spanning dogs, cats, and exotic species — the only exotic urgent care provider in the Rochester area • Partnership opportunities to co-own the practice through the hospital’s collaborative ownership group • Close-knit, team-oriented culture with a strong commitment to mentorship and professional development About You: • DVM or VMD degree from an accredited institution • You hold (or are eligible for) a veterinary licence in New York State • Experienced veterinarian with a passion for urgent care and leadership • Comfortable managing a varied caseload including exotic species • Strong communicator who leads by example and inspires confidence in the team • Committed to high-quality, compassionate, and client-focused veterinary medicine Benefits: • Earnings upwards of $200k with no negative accrual • Up to $50,000 sign-on bonus • Health, dental, and vision insurance • Retirement plan • Generous continuing education allowance with paid CE days • Paid time off, paid holidays, and the ability to earn additional PTO • Uniform allowance and employee pet care discounts • Relocation assistance and employment sponsorship available • Plumb’s/VIN membership, licence fees, AVMA-PLIT, and professional dues covered
