Job Description

Veterinary Surgeon - Albuquerque, New Mexico - 3–5 day workweek options Full-Time | Multi-Specialty + 24/7 ER | CT + MRI | Advanced & Minimally Invasive Surgery | Flexible 3–5 Day Schedule An established multi-specialty and emergency hospital in Albuquerque is seeking a Board-Certified or Residency-Trained Veterinary Surgeon to join its specialty team. This is an opportunity to build or expand a surgical service within a hospital that offers 24/7 emergency support, advanced imaging, experienced technical staff, and the resources needed to manage complex surgical cases. The hospital combines specialty and emergency medicine in a collaborative environment designed to allow specialists to focus on practicing high-quality medicine while maintaining greater flexibility in their schedules. The Opportunity You'll manage a diverse surgical caseload with support from an experienced clinical team and access to advanced diagnostic and surgical resources. Depending on your interests and experience, cases may include: • Orthopedic surgery • Soft-tissue surgery • Oncologic surgery • Emergency surgery • Advanced surgical procedures • Minimally invasive procedures • Complex referral cases • Surgical consultations and case management • Post-operative and hospitalized patient management You'll also have the opportunity to collaborate with emergency doctors and other specialty clinicians on complex cases requiring a multidisciplinary approach. Advanced Clinical Resources The hospital provides access to technology and equipment designed to support advanced specialty medicine, including: • CT • MRI • Ultrasound • Digital radiography • Endoscopy • Minimally invasive surgical capabilities • Advanced surgical equipment • Full in-house laboratory Having advanced imaging and diagnostics available within the hospital allows surgeons to efficiently evaluate cases and develop comprehensive treatment plans without routinely sending patients elsewhere for diagnostic workups. 24/7 Emergency Support A dedicated emergency service provides an important foundation for the surgical department. The ER team manages incoming emergency patients, provides stabilization and supports hospitalized cases, while also creating a consistent source of surgical cases requiring specialty consultation or intervention. For a surgeon, this creates the opportunity to work within an integrated emergency and specialty environment rather than operating as a standalone referral service. Schedule & Work-Life Balance Flexible scheduling options are available based on experience, hospital needs, and individual preferences. • Full-time • Flexible scheduling • 3–5 day workweek options Specific scheduling, surgical days, consultation days, and on-call expectations can be discussed during the interview process. Compensation The hospital offers a progressive compensation structure designed to reward both clinical expertise and production. • Competitive base compensation • Additional production earning opportunities • No negative accrual • Compensation based on experience, credentials, and qualifications Professional Development Specialists have access to resources designed to support continued clinical development throughout their careers. Support may include: • Dedicated continuing education time • Continuing education resources • Paid time for board study • Collaboration with other veterinary specialists • Professional development opportunities • Access to a broader clinical peer network Benefits Eligible team members have access to a comprehensive benefits package that may include: • Paid vacation • Paid parental leave • Bereavement leave • Dedicated continuing education time • Mental health and wellness resources • Professional development support • Employee veterinary-care and pet discounts Who We're Looking For • DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree • Board-Certified Veterinary Surgeon or Residency-Trained Veterinarian • Active New Mexico veterinary license in good standing or ability to obtain one prior to starting • Active DEA license or eligibility to obtain DEA licensure • Strong surgical and clinical decision-making skills • Commitment to high-quality specialty medicine • Collaborative approach to multidisciplinary case management • Strong communication skills with clients, referring veterinarians, and clinical teams Living in Albuquerque Albuquerque offers a distinctive combination of Southwestern culture, city amenities, and easy access to outdoor recreation. The surrounding region provides opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, skiing, camping, golfing, and fishing, with mountains and open spaces easily accessible from the city. For specialists considering relocation, Albuquerque offers the opportunity to practice advanced medicine while enjoying a lifestyle that can be difficult to replicate in many larger specialty markets. Why Consider This Opportunity? • Established multi-specialty hospital • Dedicated 24/7 emergency service • CT and MRI • Advanced and minimally invasive surgical capabilities • Strong technical support • Diverse referral and emergency surgical caseload • Flexible 3–5 day scheduling options • Base + production compensation • No negative accrual • Continuing education and professional development support • Collaborative specialty environment For a Board-Certified or Residency-Trained Surgeon looking for advanced clinical resources, strong ER support, and greater flexibility, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
