Job Description

We are working on behalf of an independently owned, newly built veterinary hospital in New Bern, NC that is looking to welcome an Associate Veterinarian to its growing team. Opened just over a year ago, this modern facility was designed from the ground up to support both general practice and emergency medicine under one roof, meaning pets never need to be transferred between a day clinic and a separate emergency facility. The hospital is equipped with five exam rooms, separate dog and cat wards, an isolation suite with its own ventilation, a double surgery suite, a dedicated dental suite, in house IDEXX laboratory equipment, digital radiography, and an onsite CT scanner, a rare capability for a hospital of this size. You will practice general medicine during the day alongside true emergency coverage in the evenings, with a schedule built around four working days a week and rotating weekend shifts. This is a close knit, owner led team that genuinely values its people, with monthly staff events, cross trained technicians and assistants, and a hands on, humble culture where doctors pitch in alongside the team. Compensation is production based with no negative accrual, so time off never counts against your earnings, and the practice is happy to support new graduates with structured mentorship as well as experienced clinicians looking for a full time home. Key Highlights • Newly built, modern hospital combining full time general practice and true emergency medicine under one roof • Onsite CT scanner plus digital radiography and full in house IDEXX laboratory, a notable capability for a hospital this size • Double surgery suite and a separate dedicated dental suite • Five exam rooms with separate dog and cat wards and a dedicated isolation suite • Four day work week with rotating weekends and a schedule built around surgery mornings and appointment afternoons • Production based pay with no negative accrual, so sick days, PTO and CE never count against your earnings • Structured mentorship for new graduates and support for clinicians building surgical or emergency skills • Down to earth, appreciation driven culture with monthly staff events and a genuinely supportive team About You • DVM or equivalent degree with the ability to hold or obtain licensure in North Carolina • Comfortable with, or willing to learn, both general practice and emergency medicine • Happy to see cats, dogs and the occasional exotic or pocket pet patient • A team player who is hands on, personable and willing to pitch in wherever needed • Pragmatic and compassionate when working within a range of client budgets • Open to rotating weekend shifts as part of a four day working week Benefits • Health, dental and vision insurance • 401k retirement plan • Paid time off with production protected through no negative accrual • Continuing education allowance with paid CE days • Licensing and professional membership fees covered • Onsite bedroom and shower for overnight shifts • Monthly staff events and recognition for going above and beyond
