Job Description

We are working on behalf of a well-organized nonprofit shelter and community animal clinic in Muskegon, MI that is looking to welcome a Relief Veterinarian to help cover upcoming shifts. The organization has cared for animals in the Muskegon area for more than 50 years and today runs both an animal shelter and a low-cost community clinic focused on accessible veterinary care for people and pets in need. Shifts are Monday to Friday only, with no weekends, and run from 9am to 4pm with a protected lunch hour from 12 to 1pm, so you are looking at a very manageable six hours of clinical time. Shifts are available to pick up throughout the week, and you can choose between surgeries or appointments. Surgery days are capped at five procedures, typically mass removals, dentals, and less routine cases, with the occasional spay or neuter mixed in. Appointment days are made up of 20 to 30 minute wellness and sick visits, with shelter pets worked in between and no walk-ins. You will be the only doctor on shift, supported by an LVT, a veterinary assistant, and a receptionist. The clinic is well equipped with in-house bloodwork, a surgical suite, and a dental suite with dental radiographs, and runs fully paperless on Shepherd software. This is a great fit for a relief DVM who enjoys shelter and community medicine and wants a well-structured, rewarding day with a supportive team behind them.
