Job Description

We are working on behalf of a small animal hospital in Livonia, MI that is looking for a Relief Veterinarian to provide ongoing shift coverage. Relief needs come up regularly, and the hospital would love to build a relationship with a doctor they can call on again and again. You can take as many or as few shifts as suits you, and partial shift coverage is welcome if you can only give part of a day. The hospital is one of around 20 practices in a group based mostly in Michigan. The locations work closely together and lean on each other for support, so if you want more days, there are often extra relief shifts available at sister hospitals nearby. You will be the doctor on duty for the shift, supported by two to three technicians or assistants at all times. Relief doctors who are new to the hospital are not expected to do surgery, so your time will be spent on appointments, wellness checks and sick visits. Over time, if the team is a good fit for you, there is room to talk about a more regular schedule or longer term work. Pay is $115 to $120 per hour. Key Highlights • Ongoing relief shifts, not just one-off cover • Take as many or as few shifts as you like • Partial shift coverage welcome • Two to three technicians or assistants on every shift • No surgery expected for new relief doctors • Extra relief shifts often available at nearby sister hospitals • Part of a supportive group of around 20 Michigan hospitals • $115 to $120 per hour About You • DVM or equivalent degree that allows you to practice veterinary medicine in the US • You hold, or are eligible for, licensure in Michigan • Comfortable being the only doctor on shift • Solid general practice small animal skills • Friendly, adaptable and a good team player Benefits • Hourly rate of $115 to $120 • Choose the shifts that fit your schedule • Full or partial shifts • Reliable support staff on every shift • Access to more relief work across the group • Option to move toward a regular schedule or longer term work
