Job Description

Stoneledge Animal Hospital is looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team in Westbrook, Maine. This is not an entry-level assistant role. We are looking for someone who has spent meaningful time in a veterinary hospital, understands clinical workflow, and can help support a team that is currently rebuilding, growing, and working through a high-need staffing period. Stoneledge has served the Westbrook community for approximately 60 years. Our hospital operates out of a distinctive 1879 farmhouse with a barn-style clinical addition, giving the practice a unique feel and a strong local presence. Inside, we have 5 exam rooms, a dedicated comfort room, 2 wet treatment tables, a surgery suite, an x-ray room, and significant kennel and patient holding space. Our team is made up of people who care deeply about animals and want to provide strong patient care, even during challenging days. We are looking for someone who brings positive energy, practical experience, and a willingness to help wherever needed. The right assistant will be steady, reliable, and comfortable supporting surgery, treatment, patient handling, and daily workflow. What You’ll Find Here Long-standing community practice Approximately 60 years serving Westbrook-area pets Unique farmhouse and barn-style hospital 5 exam rooms Dedicated comfort room Surgery suite X-ray room 2 wet treatment tables Soft tissue surgery and dentistry Limited pocket pet care Angel Fund supported by year-round Angel Tree Westbrook police dog clients No current weekend schedule One-hour lunch period Opportunity to grow alongside a team in transition What You’ll Do As an experienced Veterinary Assistant, you will support doctors, technicians, patients, and hospital workflow. Responsibilities may include: Patient restraint and handling Exam room support Treatment area support Surgery preparation support Patient recovery support Cleaning and stocking Lab support Drop-off patient support Tech appointment support Client communication Helping maintain smooth workflow throughout the day Surgery & Procedure Support Surgery experience is highly valuable for this role. Our team performs surgery Monday through Thursday, typically with 2 procedures per day and occasionally more depending on timing and complexity. We are especially interested in candidates who are comfortable supporting surgical workflow, preparing patients, assisting with recovery, and helping the team stay organized between procedures. Who We’re Looking For Experienced Veterinary Assistant Surgery or procedure support experience preferred Reliable and dependable Positive and adaptable Strong communication skills Comfortable in a busy GP setting Willing to help across clinical areas Team-oriented Interested in learning and continued growth Able to bring calm, steady support to the team Compensation This role offers a pay range of $20–$22 per hour, based on experience, skills, and qualifications. This could also be a strong opportunity for someone currently in school to become an LVT or someone who wants to continue growing their technical skills in a community-based hospital.
