Job Description

Veterinary Assistant Androscoggin Animal Hospital | Topsham, Maine Pay: $19–$21/hour, depending on experience If you’re the kind of person who can clean up cat puke, help a nervous dog feel safe, and reassure a worried client without missing a beat, you might be exactly who we’re looking for. Androscoggin Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join our team in Topsham, Maine. We’d love to find someone with veterinary experience, but we’re also open to someone newer to the field who brings curiosity, a good work ethic, and a genuine desire to learn. You don’t have to know everything on day one. We’re happy to help the right person build their skills. A little about us We’re a eight-doctor, AAHA-accredited small animal hospital that believes good medicine starts with a good team. We care for cats and dogs, along with a variety of small exotic pets, so there’s always something interesting happening around here. We use Fear Free techniques to help keep visits as low-stress as possible, and we take pride in providing thoughtful, high-quality care to our patients and clients. Just as importantly, we value the people who make that care possible. We have an experienced, supportive team that believes in sharing knowledge, helping each other out, and making this a place where people can build a career rather than simply clock in and out. What you'll be doing You’ll work alongside our veterinarians and experienced technical team to help keep the hospital running smoothly and our patients comfortable. That means assisting with appointments, treatments, surgical procedures, patient handling, and everyday hospital care. You’ll also help keep things clean, organized, and ready for whatever the day brings. Some days will be busy, some patients will be less than cooperative, and you’ll probably get fur on your scrubs before lunch. It’s veterinary medicine. But you’ll have teammates to lean on, opportunities to learn, and the chance to make a real difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them. Who we're looking for We’d love to meet someone who is dependable, compassionate, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Veterinary experience is a plus, but we’re willing to train someone with the right attitude and a strong interest in animal care. You should be comfortable working with animals of different sizes and temperaments, communicating kindly with clients and coworkers, and pitching in wherever you’re needed. An interest in exotic pets is a bonus, and an appreciation for the occasional terrible veterinary pun certainly won’t hurt. What you'll find here We want our assistants to feel like valued members of the medical team, not an extra set of hands that happens to be available. You’ll have opportunities to learn from experienced teammates, develop practical skills, and grow in a hospital that takes both patient care and team culture seriously. Along with a supportive work environment, we offer a benefits package that includes: Medical, dental, and vision insurance options Company-paid short-term disability and life insurance 401(k) with company match Paid time off Employee Assistance Program Employee pet care discounts Employee referral bonus Additional benefits and resources to support your well-being Why Androscoggin? Because good veterinary medicine takes good people, and good people deserve a workplace where they feel supported. We’re proud of our collaborative culture, our commitment to learning, and the relationships we’ve built with our patients, clients, and each other. Whether you’re bringing veterinary experience to the table or looking for a place to get your start, we’d love to hear from you. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, learn something new, and help us take great care of our patients, we’d love to meet you.
