Job Description

WHO WE ARE: Emergency Veterinary Care Centers (EVCC) is a rapidly growing group of emergency veterinary hospitals with five (soon to be six!) locations across the Midwest. Our mission is simple: expand into and support the communities that need us most, especially where pet owners don’t currently have access to 24/7 emergency care.   EVCC is a veterinarian-led company that truly values the insight and leadership of our DVMs. Founded by 36 local general practice veterinarians—most of whom remain actively involved today—we’re proud of the collaborative, team-first environment that defines every EVCC location.  We remain committed to delivering exceptional, around-the-clock care—because emergencies don’t just happen between 9-5.  OUR MENTORSHIP PROGRAM: EVCC is proud to offer a structured mentorship program designed for newly graduated veterinarians transitioning into emergency veterinary medicine. Our goal is to help you build confidence, develop critical ER skills, and feel fully supported as you grow into your role.  Because let’s face it; while emergency veterinary care is an exciting and fulfilling field, it’s not easy. That’s why we take extra special care of our team members through continuing education opportunities, promotion possibilities, and a supportive work environment you can be proud of.  REPORTS TO: Emergency Veterinarian Medical Director  POSITION + PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Our Highland location needs skilled, friendly and energetic newly graduated Emergency Veterinarians who strive for and achieve excellence in emergency veterinary medicine in the area.   Your mentorship experience at EVCC is personalized to your learning style, pace, and professional goals. We work closely with you to determine the appropriate timeline and workflow for your development.   MONTHS 1 – 4: You’ll be scheduled exclusively with a core member of our DVM mentorship team. This period focuses on hands-on guidance, case discussions, foundational ER skills, and consistent support.   MONTHS 4 – 7: Your schedule will transition into overlapping shifts with other associate DVMs. This collaborative phase helps you build relationships within the medical team and exposes you to a variety of clinical cases.   MONTHS 7 – 12: As you gain confidence, your schedule will include a mix of solo and overlapping shifts to help you develop independence. Even during solo shifts, you will always have access to veterinarians working at other EVCC locations for real-time support.   *All schedules and timelines remain flexible and will be continually adjusted based on your individual needs. Progression decisions are made collaboratively between you and your mentor.  WHY HIGHLAND?  Located just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, Highland offers the perfect blend of small-town appeal with suburban convenience and outdoor recreation.   Like to run, walk, or even bike? The Erie Lackawanna trail, a cycling/multi-use, paved rail-trail, cuts diagonally through Highland and is enjoyed by the town’s pedestrians and cyclists. Looking for a little bit of everything? Wicker Memorial Park is home to an 18-hole golf course, three miles of trails, volleyball and tennis courts, a dog run, splash pad, and more.   With its charming downtown and well-maintained public parks, Highland offers something for everyone—top rated schools, excellent public services, and a close-knit community.   QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an AVMA accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program  Possesses state veterinary license in good standing or eligible to obtain one  Excellent problem-solving and ability to think “quickly on your feet”  Exceptional interpersonal skills and compassionate “bedside” manner, building trust and strong relationships with clients–both human and furry alike  BENEFITS & SUPPORT: Salary Range: $125,000-$150,000, We’re committed to finding the right fit and open to negotiation  Healthcare benefits starting on day 1 of employment!  Comprehensive vision and dental plans  401k with 4% company match  Short-term and long-term disability and life insurance  Veterinary care discounts for your pets  Flexible scheduling to allow for the ultimate work-life balance  Regular check-ins, skills training days, and case rounds with the veterinary team and hospital leadership team  Bonus Plan  Relocation allowance  Paid licensure/dues  VIN and Plumb Pro memberships  Competitive CE allowance  And so much more!  If you have questions please see our website or reach out to Kaitlin Huesca, University Relations and Student Programs Manager.
