Job Description

Good Medicine. Good People. A Practice that Cares for Our Team. Associate Veterinarian - Meridian Veterinary Hospital - Meridian, Idaho Would you rather build relationships with clients than rush them through a transaction? Do you want enough clinical independence to practice medicine properly, while still having experienced veterinarians around you when a case is worth discussing? And would you enjoy becoming one of the doctors that clients eventually ask for by name? Meridian Veterinary Hospital may be worth getting to know. About the Job We're looking for another veterinarian because we have more clients who want our care than our current veterinary team can reasonably serve. This is not a speculative growth hire. There is real work here and a longstanding client base waiting for another good doctor. Your role will center on three things: Practicing good general medicine independently You'll take ownership of a genuine GP caseload, including preventative care, medical work-ups, diagnostics and the everyday variety that makes general practice interesting. If you're comfortable with routine soft-tissue surgery and dentistry, even better. Excellent medical GP skills matter most. Building your own relationships with our clients Many of our clients have trusted Meridian Veterinary Hospital for years - sometimes generations. We want you to become one of the doctors they trust too. That means listening, explaining your reasoning, giving people sensible options and recommending what their pet genuinely needs rather than treating medicine like a sales exercise. Being the kind of colleague who makes the team stronger You'll have autonomy here, but autonomy isn't the same thing as working alone. We talk through difficult cases, help one another when days go sideways and expect people to take responsibility for the work in front of them. About Us Meridian Veterinary Hospital has been part of the Treasure Valley community for more than 85 years. We are proudly independent. Our purpose is simple: to provide steady, trustworthy veterinary care by building lasting relationships with the people and pets we serve. We're deliberately strengthening the practice so it can remain an independent community hospital for another generation. That has meant doing real work internally too. Over the last couple of years we've been rebuilding the team, getting clearer about our values and expectations and creating a more collaborative way of working together. We aren't claiming perfection. But we're serious about building a workplace based on integrity, respect, relationships, stewardship, growth and work ethic. For us, values aren't slogans. Integrity means owning your decisions. Teamwork means treating technicians, clients and colleagues professionally even when the day is difficult. RELAS TIONSHIPS MEAN earning trust over time. Growth means never deciding you've finished learning. Work ethic means showing up and contributing when people and patients depend on you. The Medicine This is genuine community small-animal general practice. Your caseload may include: ● Preventative and wellness medicine ● Internal medicine ● Diagnostic work-ups ● Dentistry ● Soft-tissue surgery ● Imaging ● Occasional orthopedic work according to interest and experience Our equipment includes digital radiography, dental radiography, ultrasound, in-house laboratory diagnostics and dedicated surgical and dental facilities. Our veterinary team brings decades of experience across internal medicine, feline medicine, dermatology, ultrasound, surgery and complementary medicine. There is plenty of experience around the building. What we cannot honestly promise at this stage is a heavily structured, high-touch mentorship program. We currently need a veterinarian who can practice a significant amount of GP medicine independently after a thoughtful onboarding period. As the veterinary team grows, the scope for deeper mentoring and knowledge-sharing will grow with it. About You You may already be working in a hospital where the medicine has started to feel too transactional. Perhaps you want more ownership of your cases. Perhaps you miss having time to know your clients. Or perhaps you simply want to work somewhere independent, where clinical decisions are made locally by veterinarians who know the people and animals involved. You'll probably do well here if you: ● Are confident with everyday GP medicine. ● Communicate clearly with clients. ● Take ownership of your cases. ● Value autonomy and responsibility together. ● Enjoy working with veterinary technicians and support colleagues. ● Are willing to help when the day doesn't go exactly to plan. ● Remain curious and willing to learn. This is probably not the right job if you need a highly structured corporate environment, want every clinical decision mapped out in advance, or prefer to finish only the work formally assigned to you regardless of what is happening around the team. Compensation and Schedule ● Guaranteed base salary: $140,000-$150,000 depending on experience, base salary to be reevaluated at 6 month with possible increase. ● Possible additional bonus to bring salary to 22% of production*. ● $10,000 signing and retention package: $5,000 following signing and successful completion of probation; $2,500 on completion of each year of service for the following two years. ● Employer-paid professional dues and licensing. ● Health, dental and vision insurance contribution. ● $3,000 annual CE allowance with paid CE leave. ● Paid time off. ● Staff pet discounts. The Schedule ● Start at 8:00 a.m.; last appointment time is 5:00 p.m., so you can leave when we close at 6:00 p.m. ● Lunch is 12:00-1:00 p.m. ● 4 Saturday vaccine clinics a year 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. ● The candidate should be willing to see urgent care/drop-off cases. ● Surgery schedule will be on Tuesday, with surgeries in the morning and appointments in the afternoon. ● Our staff-to-DVM ratio is 3/4:1 - lots of support. Location Meridian is part of Idaho's Treasure Valley, immediately west of Boise, with easy access to mountains, outdoor recreation and the amenities of a growing metropolitan area. Interested? You don't need to write an essay explaining why you've dreamed of working at Meridian since childhood. Just send us your resume and a short note introducing yourself to severson@meridianvethospital. If the role sounds interesting but you're not ready to formally apply, we'd still be happy to have a confidential conversation. *22% does not apply to all categories and only to settled accounts.
