AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport, Inc.is a 501(c)3, non-profit animal rescue organization, headquartered in De Soto, IA. Our main purpose is to care for the homeless companion animals in our community and surrounding areas. We also provide much needed services to the pet owners in our area thru food assistance, low cost spay/neuter clinics, and TNR services. In addition to our own community, we strive to bridge the gap between traditional animal shelters and no-kill rescues throughout the central United States in two different ways: 1) By pulling dogs out of traditional shelters that are on death row and placing them in foster homes and forever homes through our organization; and 2) By providing free transportation for dogs from traditional shelters to other no-kill rescues all over the Midwest and Canada
Requirements
The Veterinary Technician provides medical, surgical, and administrative support to veterinarians while ensuring the health and well-being of foster and shelter animals. This role encompasses patient care, surgical assistance, client communication, and coordination with rescue and foster partners to promote efficient operations and positive animal outcomes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Surgical Support - Prepare patients for surgical procedures, including pre-operative care and monitoring. - Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures. - Monitor patients during recovery and report concerns to the veterinarian. - Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols. - Maintain cleanliness and organization of the surgical suite. Animal Care - Administer core vaccinations as directed by the veterinarian. - Implant microchips and maintain accurate records. - Assist with physical examinations and routine treatments. - Support the intake process for newly admitted dogs by obtaining medical histories, performing basic assessments, and documenting findings. - Monitor animal health and communicate concerns to veterinary staff. Foster and Shelter Support - Serve as the primary point of contact for medical questions and concerns involving foster and shelter dogs. - Triage and coordinate responses to health-related issues reported by foster caregivers. - Assist in developing treatment plans and follow-up care under veterinary direction. - Maintain accurate medical records for foster and shelter animals. Administrative and Scheduling Support - Assist with appointment scheduling and coordination of veterinary services. - Communicate with stakeholders regarding appointments and medical care. - Maintain accurate medical records and documentation. - Support daily operations and workflow management. Qualifications - Veterinary Technician certification or license preferred; equivalent experience may be considered. - Experience in animal shelters or rescue organizations preferred. - Knowledge of animal handling, vaccination protocols, and surgical assistance. - Strong communication and organizational skills. - Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. - Compassion for animals and commitment to high-quality patient care. Physical Requirements - Ability to safely handle and restrain dogs of varying sizes and temperaments. - Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds. - Ability to work around animals, cleaning agents, and medical equipment.
