Veterinary Emergency + Referral Center (VERC) is an advanced veterinary diagnostic and treatment center, offering the most comprehensive and progressive patient care available in the state of Hawaii.
Our new 17,250 sq ft hospital on N. Nimitz Highway features 14 exam rooms, two soft tissue and two orthopedic surgery suites, two digital radiography suites, an MRI, and a new upgraded 128-slice CT. We offer 24-hour emergency care along with critical care, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, physical therapy and rehabilitation, and surgery.

Veterinary Assistant – Emergency Veterinary Emergency + Referral Center of Hawaii (VERC) | Honolulu, HIFull-Time | Emergency & Critical CareUp to $23.00/hr DOE VERC is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our 24/7 Emergency & Critical Care team in Honolulu. This is a hands-on opportunity for a Vet Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to build advanced skills in Emergency Veterinary Medicine, ER/ECC, ICU, triage, stabilization, and hospitalized patient care. You'll work alongside Emergency Veterinarians, RVTs, Veterinary Technicians, and Specialty teams caring for patients ranging from urgent walk-in cases to critically ill hospitalized pets. What You Bring Previous hands-on Veterinary Assistant, Vet Tech, or veterinary clinical experience. Strong animal handling and restraint skills. Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection, medications, and patient monitoring. Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns quickly. Emergency, ER/ECC, ICU, Critical Care, Specialty, urgent care, or high-volume general practice experience preferred. Anesthesia or sedation monitoring experience is a plus. Ability to prioritize and adapt as patient needs change. Strong communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and attention to detail. Ability to remain calm and organized during urgent and emergent situations. Veterinary Technician or RVT credentialing is welcome but not required for this Veterinary Assistant position. In Your Day-to-Day, You Will Support Emergency Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians with urgent and critically ill patients. Assist with triage, stabilization, treatments, procedures, and hospitalized patient care. Provide safe animal restraint and hands-on nursing support. Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection, and in-house diagnostics within your training and permitted scope. Support medication administration, IV fluid therapy, and patient treatments. Assist with radiographs, ultrasound, and other Emergency diagnostics. Support sedation, anesthesia, and Emergency procedures. Closely monitor hospitalized and ICU patients and communicate changes to the medical team. Prepare treatment areas and equipment for incoming Emergency patients. Collaborate across Emergency, ICU, and Specialty services to maintain efficient patient flow.
