Reports To: Head Technician or Veterinarian Role Overview: The Veterinary Assistant/Customer Service Representative/Floater is a vital member of our hospital team, providing essential support to veterinarians, technicians, and reception staff in the care and treatment of animals. This role alternates between hands-on animal care and client service duties, ensuring smooth hospital operations and contributing to the comfort and well-being of patients and their owners. Responsibilities include preparing for procedures, maintaining a clean and organized hospital environment, assisting with basic clinical tasks, and supporting client-facing functions at reception. Key Responsibilities: Animal Care & Clinical Support - Handle and restrain animals safely during exams, diagnostic tests, and basic treatments. - Prepare animals for procedures, including cleaning and shaving treatment areas as needed. - Provide basic care for hospitalized patients, including feeding, walking, cleaning cages, and monitoring comfort. - Assist veterinarians and technicians during routine procedures such as blood draws, wound cleaning, and sample collection. - Perform basic clinical exams for patient triage and risk classification. - Monitor patients and report behavioral or physical changes to the veterinary team. Hospital Cleanliness & Organization - Clean and disinfect examination rooms, treatment areas, ICU, kennels, and restrooms. - Perform laundry duties to maintain clean bedding, towels, and gowns for patient use. - Follow biohazard and waste disposal protocols to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for staff, clients, and animals. - Maintain organized treatment areas and restock supplies as needed. Client Interaction - Welcome pet owners with empathy and assist with patient intake. - Provide updates on pets’ status as directed by veterinarians or technicians. - Support clients in stressful situations with compassion and professionalism. Team Collaboration & Hospital Operations - Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and reception staff to ensure smooth patient flow. - Assist in inventory organization to ensure supplies are available when needed. - Participate in staff meetings and training to maintain updated hospital protocols. Additional Responsibilities - Support basic record-keeping tasks, ensuring accurate patient information is logged. - Help prepare equipment and materials for procedures. - Remain flexible to assist during high-volume periods and emergencies. Qualifications: - Minimum of one year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant. - Comfortable handling animals of various sizes and temperaments. - Strong teamwork and communication skills. - Compassionate and empathetic toward both animals and their owners. - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment. - Physical capability to lift and restrain animals safely. - Flexible schedule, including availability for evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
