Shelter Medicine Supervisor

The Shelter Medicine Supervisor provides frontline leadership for our Shelter Medicine team while remaining actively involved in patient care. This position supervises veterinary technicians and assistants, coordinates daily medical operations, and works closely with shelter veterinarians to ensure high-quality, efficient medical care for shelter animals. What You'll Do -Supervise and support veterinary technicians and assistants within the Shelter Medicine department. -Coordinate daily workflow for intake examinations, diagnostics, treatments, surgery preparation, isolation, and patient monitoring. -Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, surgery, anesthesia, and medical procedures. -Ensure timely completion of treatments, diagnostics, follow-up care, and medical documentation. -Oversee shelter sterilization scheduling, surgical preparation, anesthesia monitoring, recovery, and patient flow. -Manage daily operations of canine and feline isolation areas while maintaining strict infection control and biosecurity standards. -Train, coach, mentor, and develop team members through ongoing feedback and hands-on leadership. -Assist with onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and quality assurance. -Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with medical protocols, OSHA, DEA, and shelter medicine standards. -Coordinate medical care for foster animals in partnership with veterinarians and the Foster Coordinator. -Monitor inventory of medications, medical supplies, and equipment. -Help identify workflow improvements that enhance efficiency while maintaining exceptional patient care. -Foster a positive culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and compassion. Qualifications -Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT) with at least three years of veterinary technician experience preferred. -Non-credentialed veterinary technicians with five or more years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply. -Previous supervisory or lead technician experience preferred. -Experience in shelter medicine, high-volume spay/neuter, emergency medicine, or a fast-paced veterinary practice is highly desirable. -Strong technical skills, including anesthesia monitoring, laboratory procedures, radiology, diagnostics, patient nursing, and surgical assistance. -Excellent leadership, coaching, communication, and organizational skills. -Ability to prioritize multiple competing demands in a fast-paced environment. -Proficiency with veterinary practice management software and Microsoft Office. -Valid Florida driver's license. -Euthanasia certification, or the ability to obtain certification within six months of employment. Schedule -Full-time (40 hours per week) -Weekend availability required on a rotating basis. -Schedule flexibility may be required to meet patient care and operational needs. -Occasional on-call availability for urgent shelter medicine needs.
