Practice Manager – North Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic Location: San Mateo, California Employment Type: Full-Time Reports To: Regional Director of Operations  About the Role North Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic (NPVEC) seeking an experienced, people-focused Practice Manager to lead day-to-day operations of a veterinary hospital while delivering exceptional medical care, an unmatched client experience, and strong business performance. This role partners closely with the Medical Director, Regional Director of Operations, and support teams to create a highly engaged workplace, optimize hospital efficiency, and strengthen long-term relationships with clients and the community.   The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who thrives in a fast-paced veterinary emergency environment, combines operational excellence with emotional intelligence, and is passionate about supporting teams and pets alike.   What You’ll DoAs Practice Manager, you will be responsible for the overall success of the hospital, including: Hospital Operations & Leadership Partner with the Medical Director to lead hospital operations aligned with organizational standards, medical excellence, and client experience goals Serve as a role model and champion of company values, ensuring consistent, high-quality patient care and service Identify operational barriers and proactively implement solutions to improve workflow, productivity, and outcomes Team Management & Development Recruit, interview, hire, train, coach, and, when necessary, discipline or terminate team members Create development plans, support ongoing training, and foster career growth for associates Build team schedules to ensure appropriate coverage, efficiency, and compliance with labor standards Conduct performance reviews, wage planning, and staffing analysis aligned with hospital growth Client Experience Lead by example in delivering a professional, compassionate, and “unmatched” client experience Ensure timely and effective resolution of client concerns Oversee phone etiquette standards, online reviews, and client communication practices Financial & Performance Management Partner in annual budgeting, goal-setting, and hospital planning Monitor and improve KPIs including labor, revenue growth, average transaction value, visit growth, production categories, and forward booking Manage cost of goods, inventory, pricing, and purchasing compliance Review scorecards, financial statements, and performance dashboards regularly Communication & Collaboration Maintain consistent communication with hospital leadership and support teams Participate in weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance reviews and action planning Build strong relationships with internal partners, clients, and the local community Qualifications Preferred: Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field Minimum 5 years of experience in medical, veterinary, or healthcare operations management preferred Strong knowledge of human resources practices, scheduling, and employee development Experience with sales, marketing, and financial performance management Veterinary industry knowledge strongly preferred Proven leadership, decision-making, and coaching skills Compensation & Benefits Pay Range: Up to $110,000 Complimentary Short Term Disability   Complimentary Life Insurance $25,000; with options to purchase additional voluntary benefits for self or family  Company Sponsored Employee Assistance Program (Headspace) 401K with 100% company match up to 3% and 4% company match for your 5% of contributions, eligible after 6 months of employment Florida Blue Insurance Plans with 3 tiered options; Kaiser for CA Residents Flexible Spending Account,  Health Savings Account or Health Reimbursement Account  options  United Healthcare Dental Insurance; includes a 100% paid premium option for team members United Healthcare Vision Insurance options Long Term Disability option (covered by employee) Progyny-Fertility and Family Building Support   Generous Continuing Education Program Team Member Discounts for Pet Care Paid time off-inclusive of sick, personal, vacation and CE AVMA Professional Liability Insurance (PLIT) provided VIN provided Reimbursement for: state Veterinary License / DEA License  / state VMA Dues / AVMA Dues/ +/-specialty dues  Master accounts with online publishers: Sage, Wiley, Elsevier Digital Musculoskeletal Support Referral Bonus Program DailyPay on Demand Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to an 8-hour shift) Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 40 pounds Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and perform other physical tasks associated with hospital operations Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions United Veterinary Care provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment in all job classifications without regard to race, color, religion, age, mental disability, physical disability, medical condition, gender, sexual orientation, genetic information, ancestry, marital status, national origin, veteran status, and other classifications protected by applicable state and local non-discrimination laws.
