Job Description

$25–$35/hour DOE • 4 days on, 3 days off (4/10 schedule) alternating • One Saturday shift per month Responsibilities Patient Care ● Assist veterinarians during appointments, surgery, diagnostics, treatments, and emergency procedures. ● Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, radiographs, laboratory diagnostics, medication administration, and patient treatments. ● Monitor hospitalized patients throughout treatment and recovery. ● Maintain accurate electronic medical records and treatment documentation. Surgery & Dentistry ● Prepare patients for surgery using proper sterile technique and monitor anesthesia throughout procedures. ● Provide post-operative nursing care. ● Perform dental prophylaxis, polishing, charting, and dental radiographs. ● Ensure anesthesia machines, surgical equipment, and treatment areas are properly maintained. Leadership & Team Support ● Lead and support the veterinary technician and assistant team during daily hospital operations. ● Mentor veterinary assistants and support staff on protocols, patient handling, procedures, and workflow efficiency. ● Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and excellent patient care by leading through example. Hospital Operations & Client Communication ● Monitor inventory levels, treatment supplies, and surgical materials; support quality control and OSHA/DEA compliance. ● Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of instruments, equipment, kennels, and exam rooms. ● Educate clients on treatment plans, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up care. What Success Looks Like ● Every patient receives safe, attentive care from admission through discharge. ● Veterinary assistants and support staff feel mentored, supported, and confident in their roles. ● Clients leave every visit with clear answers and confidence in their pet's care. Qualifications Required ● Experienced Technician — 2+ years of veterinary technician experience in a fast-paced hospital. ● Strong anesthesia monitoring and surgical assisting experience. ● Experience with radiology, laboratory diagnostics and hospitalized patient care. ● Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills; dependable and detail-oriented. Preferred ● Current California RVT license in good standing, or currently eligible and preparing to sit for the exam. ● Leadership or supervisory experience. ● Experience mentoring veterinary assistants or support staff. ● Small and large animal experience is a plus but not required.
