Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician | $18–$24/hr based on experience and licensure + shift differentials available Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham | Birmingham, AL Full-Time | Three 12-hour overnight shifts | 7:45 PM–8:00 AM  Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham is seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our Overnight Emergency & ICU team in Birmingham, AL. This is an opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Technician to provide hands-on emergency and critical care while working alongside a collaborative team in a specialty veterinary hospital. Schedule Full-time Three 12-hour overnight shifts 7:45 PM–8:00 AM Weekend and holiday availability required as part of the Emergency & ICU schedule Responsibilities Assist veterinarians with emergency patient assessments, treatments, and procedures Provide hands-on nursing care and monitoring for hospitalized Emergency and ICU patients Monitor patient status and promptly communicate changes to veterinarians and the medical team Perform venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, and laboratory sample collection Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian Provide anesthesia support and patient monitoring during emergency procedures Perform diagnostic imaging and assist with laboratory testing Accurately calculate medication dosages and maintain detailed medical records Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients regarding patient status and treatment plans Collaborate with Veterinary Technicians, veterinarians, and support team members to provide high-quality emergency and critical care Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment and patient care area Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician in general practice or emergency veterinary medicine Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) preferred Strong technical skills in venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, anesthesia support, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory procedures Working knowledge of veterinary pharmacology and medication calculations Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced Emergency and ICU environment Excellent communication and teamwork skills Ability to remain calm, organized, and focused while caring for emergency and critical patients Compassionate approach to patient care and client service Commitment to continued learning and professional development Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
